You will be working on an exciting breast cancer research project that is funded by KWF.
Your goal will be to unravel the molecular mechanisms through which R-spondin proteins drive breast tumor development, and gain insight in the potential opportunities to improve breast cancer treatment. A variegated approach will be used, among which extensive 3D breast tumor organoid studies and (preclinical) mouse experiments will predominate. The broad range of molecular and cellular techniques will include cloning, functional manipulation tools (siRNA, CRISPR/Cas9), flowcytometric analysis and -sorting, RNAsequencing, immunohistochemistry and –blotting, confocal/live imaging.
This position is within the research group of Dr. Bakker, part of the laboratory of Dr. Derksen (derksenlab.org), Dept. of Pathology. The laboratory is housed in the UMC Utrecht Stratenum Research building, in proximity to multidisciplinary laboratories with an overarching interest in molecular cancer research.
You hold an MSc degree in Biomedical Sciences/Biology or a related field. You have experience with standard molecular, cellular and biochemical assays. Preferably you hold a permit for in vivo experiments, or are willing to obtain one. You are highly motivated to perform competitive scientific research and have a goal-oriented, independent and dedicated work mentality.
This 100% position will be for an initial 1 year, with an expected extension of another 3 years. The salary will be according to CAO UMC, with a maximum € 2.919,00 gross per month based on full-time employment (work week 36 hours).
