Genetic instability is a major hallmark of cancer and causes the cells’ genetic make up to continuously change. One major player in the manifestation of genetic instability is DNA damage, which can be caused either by endogenous or exogenous insults. The candidate will investigate how different chromatin domains in the eukaryotic nucleus respond to DNA damage and how this chromatin response safeguards genetic stability. The successfull candidate will use locus-specific DNA damage systems (e.g. endonucleases, CRISPR-Cas9) in both Drosophila animals and human cells combined with high resolution live tissue imaging, mass spectometry and in-depth DNA sequencing.
