The PhD student position is part of the project “Prille-start” which is a collaboration between the WUR, UU and UMCU. Together with the research nurse as well as the MD-PhD student already working on the program you will dive into the factors present within human milk that are involved into the protection it can provides to the infants. You will write a PhD thesis (based on scientific publications) and follow courses at the Graduate school for Infection and Immunity. The PRIMA study is an observational cohort study, with the aim to identify immuno-active components within human milk that harness protection against (respiratory tract) infections within infants. A large group of healthy mother-child pairs will be followed for 1-year, human milk samples will be collected at several time points, and clinical data regarding the symptoms and the frequency of infections will be gathered. By comparing clinical data with the composition of human milk, we aim to identify new components that increase protection against infectious diseases during the first year of life.
The PRIMA study team is a cross-functional team of scientists and clinicians. You will become an embedded member of our PRIMA- team within the CTI, consisting of Belinda van ’t Land (immune development group), Louis Bont (RSV-research group and pediatric infections) as well as Jeanette Leusen (immunotherapy group).
For this project it is important that you have demonstrated affinity with nutrition and immunological research, and you like the challenge of working at the cross-path of Health Science, Human Milk research and Immunology. You should be able to demonstrate excellent cross-functional interaction skills and have a good command of the Dutch and English language. You are a good collaborator with clear communication skills, and in the meantime also enjoy working relatively independently.
The maximum salary for this position (100%) is € 3.196,00 gross per month based on full-time employment (work week 36 hours). This job is based on a temporary position for 4 years.
