You will work in the field of computational cancer genomics in a collaborative environment that connects directly to the in-house state-of-the-art sequencing facility housing NGS and ONT sequencers (PromethION, GridION). You will focus on designing new machine learning approaches to enable analysis of WGS and long-read sequencing data with the ultimate aim to improving cancer diagnostics. We are looking for someone that doesn’t shy away from taking a leading role in e.g. co-supervising MSc / PhD students and setting up new collaborations and projects. You should have the ambition to pursue a career in science and we will aim to provide all the opportunities to further your career in science. You should have obtained (or are close to obtaining) your PhD in a good lab.


The Section of Genetics [] of the Center for Molecular Medicine uses genomics and bioinformatics approaches to understand the genetic basis of disease. Expertise and state-of-the-art infrastructure is available for next-generation DNA sequencing, single molecule sequencing, genotyping, metabolomics, bioinformatics and a broad range of model systems, including patient-derived primary cultures, iPS cells and organoid culturing. You will join the group of dr. de Ridder as a Postdoc. The de Ridder lab has a strong background in creating and applying advanced computational techniques to high-throughput molecular datasets and develops novel data integration strategies to further disease biology. The lab recently joined the Oncode institute [], a virtual institute connecting excellent cancer researchers within the Netherlands dedicated to outsmarting cancer and impacting lives.


You are educated as a bioinformatician or computational biologist with a data analysis mindset. Demonstrable experience in scripting languages is a requirement. The ideal candidate should have in-depth knowledge of machine learning, HPC and (cancer) genomics.

The maximum salary for this position (100%) is € 4.361,00 gross per month based on full-time employment (work week 36 hours). This job is based on a temporary position for 1 year, option extension with 2 years.

In addition, we offer an annual benefit of 8.3%, holiday allowance, travel expenses and career opportunities. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Cao University Medical Centers (UMC).
