Work in this project is focused on a new bioinformatics tool, drug target validation database (DTAdB), jointly developed by University College London and University Medical Center Utrecht, which provides a genomics-based platform for drug target identification (see Finan, Gaulton et al. Science Translational Medicine 2017, DOI 10.1126/scitranslmed.aag1166). It does so by assimilating data from on genotype-disease associations (e.g. GWAS catalogue, GRASP, GWASdB and public domain summary level genetic association data), drug targets and compounds (ChEMBL, First Databank) and drug action (indications and adverse effects in humans (Cochrane database, clinicaltrials.gov and the SIDER side effect database).
The post holder will work to enhance the capability of DTAdB by the identification and incorporation of additional datasets including wide range of omics data (RNA-seq, ChiP-seq) from different sources and tissues, developing code that streamlines connections between the datasets, and executing analyses using DTAdB to answer specific drug development questions. A key task will be to contribute to the development of a DTAdB user interface (working with software developers) and implement an automatized web-based Mendelian Randomization pipeline with focus on cardiovascular disease (in particular heart failure and coronary heart disease). The post holder will also have considerable academic freedom to develop their own ideas about ways to optimize and further develop DTAdB and other resources to aid drug development.
The UMC Utrecht is a leading international academic medical centre where knowledge of health, illness and care is generated, evaluated, shared and applied for the benefit of patients and society. The heart & lungs division is an integral part of the UMC Utrecht. This project is supervised by professor F. W. Asselbergs and dr. A. F. Schmidt, and is part of a longstanding collaboration between UMC Utrecht and UCL. The post holder is expected to spend six months abroad at UCL under supervision of dr. C. Finan and professor A.D. Hingorani.
The maximum salary for this position (100%) is € 4.481,00 gross per month based on full-time employment (work week 36 hours). This job is based on a temporary position for two years with the possibility for extension)..
