The successful applicant for this research technician position in tumor immunology will be part of the team that directly contributes to a phase I clinical study testing the safety and feasibility of engineerd T cell therapy such as TEGs and CAR T cell products. The work involves using viral vector-based techniques to engineer primary T cells in both research and GMP environments, and evaluating patient samples using flow cytometry or qPCR techniques. The isolation and culture of primary human immune and tumor cells are also part of the work, as well as setting up, developing and validating new methods and techniques to produce engineered T cells.
The technician will be part of the ATMP development group supervised by Trudy Straetemans within the larger research group of Jurgen Kuball and Zsolt Sebestyen and is embedded in the Tumor Immunology section of the Center for Translational Immunology. It focuses on the development of immune interventions against cancer using immune cells and their receptors. A unique research pipeline from fundamental to translational and clinical research has been established. A key concept developed in this group is a new generation of engineered immune cells named TEGs (T cells Engineered to express a defined Gamma delta T cell receptor). These are currently being tested in a phase I safety/feasibility clinical study at the University Medical Center Utrecht.
